Take a “Cut” Out of your Meat Processing Expenses

631 Meat Processing Grant

The “Ohio Meat Processing Grant Program” will provide grants of up to $500,000 to Ohio livestock and poultry producers.  Administered by the Ohio Department of Development, grants can be utilized to reimburse improvements and expansion of harvesting and processing services for livestock and poultry producers, harvesting and processing efficiency programs, and expansion and/or construction of facilities at existing livestock and poultry producing sites.

To be eligible for the program, an applicant must:

  • Be an owner or operator of a Federal or State registered harvesting/processing facility located in Ohio;
  • Be in operation as of July 1, 2023;
  • Provide harvesting and processing services for livestock and/or poultry producers;
  • Be a for-profit entity;
  • Be in good standing with the Ohio Secretary of State, the Ohio Department of Taxation, and additional governmental entities charged with regulating the business.

Applications need to include general application information, grant project information, and current plant information. Applications will be reviewed and scored at the end of the application window, which closes at 4:00pm on Monday, June 3, 2024. Funds will be given to applicants with the highest scoring applications until the $14,000,000 in program funding for fiscal year 2024 has been exhausted; furthermore, eligible applicants may be awarded a grant of up to 65% the total grant-eligible project costs identified in the application or $500,000 (whichever is less).  Upon submission of application and required documents, applicants will receive a confirmation email.
